Scenario #1
A teacher has recently started using PowerPoint lectures in his classes. To keep the presentations lively, he likes to include hip hop music in the presentations, and he sometimes includes current photos from the news. Sometimes the teacher would like to make changes to the music and pictures in order to try to make a point, but he's not sure if he should.
Response:
According to the Technology and Learning FairUse chart the teacher is allowed to change up the order of the songs or images but he/she is unable to change any actual content of copyrighted material. He/she can also use only 30 secs. of each song legally and only if it's used in an educational format. In regards to images the teacher can only use up to 5 images per artist and some images are restricted due to copyright rules. For more information look at either www.loc.gov or www.mpa.org
